Fancy a little gravel, a night under the stars and an excellent excuse to give bikepacking a go?
We’re heading off for a relaxed overnight ride from Beechworth to Eldorado, camping beside Reedy Creek, then looping back through Wooragee and along the rail trail on Sunday. First-timers and seasoned bikepackers are equally welcome. If you’re wondering what to bring or how to carry it, we’re happy to help with gear and advice beforehand.
The plan:
We’ll leave the Shed in Bright at around 10am on Saturday and car-pool to Beechworth. From there, it’s about 25 km of lovely gravel and quiet farm roads to our campsite near Eldorado. There’s only around 342 m of climbing, with roughly 2–3 hours of riding, so we can take our time.
After a night beside Reedy Creek, we’ll ride around 40 km back on Sunday via Woolshed Road, Wooragee and the rail trail into Beechworth. That’s approximately 650 m of climbing. We’ll head off after breakfast and aim to be back at the cars around lunchtime.
A few things to know:
- The campsite is bike access only, so you’ll need to carry your overnight gear - tents, clothes, food etc.!
- Creek water will need to be filtered (i.e. chlorine tablets).
- There are no formal toilets—it’s a Leave No Trace bush bathroom setup.
Come along for the ride, the campout, or simply the satisfaction of discovering you can fit an entire weekend on a bike. Let us know if you’re keen so we can sort out car-pooling!
